Il Nostro Comune

Chiesa S. Sofia

An elegant and lovely village. Although differing from Capri for position and urbanistic structure its aspect is peculiar and pleasant. It is less famous in the international tourism world but encloses interesting sites, monuments and excursions. Starting from Capri you can reach it through the provincial road, from where you’ll see enchanting landscapes and views both coastal and on the mountain. After the Grotta della Madonna you’ll see the Barbarossa Castle dating back to the X century. Its name if due to Turkish Barbarossa who invaded the island in 1535.
But to reach Anacapri you have another option: the ancient and famous Phoenician Steps.

boffe3One of the most important historical cores is the Boffe neighborhood. It started growing at the end of the seventeenth century with the construction of Santa Sofia Church and the renovation of a Theresian nun convent, together with S. Michele Arcangelo Church.
Amid pedestrian streets Piazza Boffe opens, characteristic for its two ancient palm trees located in the middle and for its stone realization.
Even if restructuring of the flanking houses made the ancient poetry go lost, it still is a quiet and sunny square to start discovering the typical narrow streets of Anacapri.
